Plot: Freddy and Ana, who met on a bus, both wake at the same time to find that the small town they’re in is deserted and slowly being overcome by a large, dense, black cloud
This isn’t just a horror movie. It’s a horror/comic book/fairy tale movie. And if you’d like to know, I high-fived my brother when the movie was over. It was his pick.
So, Freddy and Ana are just too cute for words as soon as you meet them, but the background tension looms heavily over any romance in the beginning. There’s a huge unexplained event that leaves a literal, dark cloud over everything. And inside this cloud, because this is a horror movie, lives a creature not to be messed with. A creature well done and scary enough to cause us to jump at least once.
But romance does come. As does comic book cutaways and fairy tale themes. It’s obvious that Ana (a more ethnic grown up version of Lintz) and Freddy (a dorky, yet still attractive version of Logan Marshall Green) are meant to be and meant to rescue each other. They work well together – excellent Freddy Claws! – but does that mean they will survive?
It’s highly original, yet still follows all the classic horror rules. Ana even ends up in tank top by the end. She never gets naked though, but it’s not that kind of movie.
Our score: 97/100. You will not be sorry to have watched this.
