Be Afraid (2017)

Directed by Drew Gabreski.  Written by Gerald Nott.  Starring Brian Krause, Jaimi Paige, Jared Abrahamson, Michelle Hurd and Michael Leone.

Plot: John Chambers (Krause) experiences sleep paralysis and dark shadow figures haunt him

So, John has been having paralyzing dreams.  Sleep paralysis being what it is, it’s horrible without ugly creatures coming after you.  And the creatures are ugly.  Very effective, however, we’ve seen things like them done before (like in 2003’s Fear of the Dark).  Anyway, after a while of having his own nightmares, he realizes his son is having them, too, and that these shadow men are after his son.  They want to take him away.  We’re not sure why, but they are.

We wanted to like the movie.  Like we said, the creatures aren’t half bad, but a lot of other stuff is.  The only black man in the movie sounds like a cartoon villain.  We hope that wasn’t done on purpose.  There is no Freddy Claws.  The only person who believes the kid is his father and that’s because he’s going through it, too.  The wife is annoying and the “twist” is just sad.  DJ saw it coming from a mile away.  Sadly, I saw the end coming.  The sucky, sucky ending.

All in all it wasn’t the worst movie in the world, but we didn’t like it and can’t recommend it.  We gave it a 38/100.
