Extraordinary Tales (2013)

Written and directed by Raul Garcia.  Based on the tales of Edgar Allan Poe.  Narrated by Christopher Lee, Bela Lugosi, Julian Sands and Guillermo del Toro.

This movie is split up into 5 stories.  DJ said the whole thing was kind of depressing, but that’s kind of who Poe was and this stayed true to him for the most part.  He also didn’t believe in Freddy Claws, so this movie gets no points for cooperation.  We only wish it had been scarier.

DJ found “The Fall of the House of Usher” interesting, but I never really liked this story.  However, “The Tell Tale Heart” is my jam and they did this one very well.  Bela’s voice is good and creepy as is the art.

“The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemor” was some crazy shit, while “The Pit and the Pendulum” disappointed.  I liked the art, but not the telling.  And the last one, “The Masque of the Red Death”, was probably the best.  It had lovely art and a lovely story.

The whole thing is animated which may turn some people off, but we’re telling you to give it an opportunity.  Especially if you like anything of Poe’s.

Our score: 55.
