The Lamp (1987) (AKA The Outing)

Directed by Tom Daley.  Written by Warren Chaney.  Starring James Huston, Deborah Winters, Red Mitchell, Andra St. Ivanyi, Scott Bankston, Andre Chimene and Damon Merrill.

Plot: a long imprisoned genie is released from his lamp and since he’s an evil genie, he starts killing people.

The movie opens with three people breaking into an old woman’s house, killing her, robbing her and unleashing the genie from the lamp that ends up killing them.  Later, the lamp ends up in a museum and the caretaker’s daughter fondles, possessing her or something like that because her eyes glow green, which is just so ridiculous.

The genie is also NOT cute.  Looks like a gargoyle.  When the kids start getting killed, it gets really cheesy, although the snake death kind of freaked me out.  I’m not usually afraid of snakes, but that looked disturbing.  It was an innovative movie and it was also original, but it was a little too campy for DJ sometimes.  I thought it was cheesy 80’s fun though, complete with boob shots and a little bit of racism.  LOL

The story was stupid though.  The rules were too confusing.  We still don’t know why the genie killed everyone with no discernment.  I recommend a viewing though.  Thought it was funny.  DJ doesn’t.

My score: 51.  DJ’s score: 36.
