YellowBrickRoad (2010)

Written and directed by Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton.  Starring Cassidy Freeman, Clark Freeman, Anessa Ramsey, Laura Heisler, Lee Wilkof, Alex Draper and Tara Giordano.

Plot: a smallish group of people follow a trail into the woods that a large group of people disappeared from in 1940.

In an attempt to solve a mystery from decades and decades earlier, a group of people become a mystery themselves.  The movie explains how.  Sort of.  It’s a very interesting movie.  Mainly philosophical in nature and hugely jarring mentally and emotionally.  Actually, we both agree that it was so disturbing on some core level that our bodies even physically hurt afterward.

It’s very easy to get lost in.  The characters are very engaging and realistic.  The story is originally done.  There’s some shocking innovation.  Some deaths so shocking that I almost cried.  The direction is fantastic.  And the soundtrack is hair-raising in the best way possible.  The whole thing is just creepy as shit.  It may have brainwashed us.  We’re just not sure.

The only bad thing is that there are no rules, but that’s kind of the point.  You don’t ask the question you don’t want the answer to.  And if you listen to us and watch it, watch until the credits are over.

Our score:  88.
