Directed by Tim Burton. Written by Kevin Yagher and Andrew Kevin Walker, based on the story by Washington Irving. Starring Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, Christopher Walken, Michael Gambon, Richard Griffiths, Jeffrey Jones and Casper Van Dien.
Plot: instead of being a school teacher, in this story, Ichabod Crane is a constable deployed to Sleepy Hollow to uncover the mystery of several brutal decapitations.
Now, I loved the Ichabod Crane story when I was little. It always scared me, but it ended so sadly. This one ends better. This whole story is better actually. If I’m being perfectly honest.
So, Ichabod, the constable, comes to Sleepy Hollow on a mission and in this, Katrina Van Tassel (Ricci) is a witch, who tries to protect him using spells and whatnot. When Ichabod learns that the townspeople believe in a story of a headless horseman, he doesn’t believe them. But he soon discovers that it’s all too true. Can he stop it?
It’s a strange movie. You have to like strange to like this, but it is worth the watch. Me and DJ both think so. There’s a solid story, a stellar cast and lovely music by Danny Elfman who DJ loves. It has a exemplary opening that’s very memorable. It’s funny. The effects are perfect. The only thing wrong is that there’s not a lot of Freddy Claws.
Our score: 68.
