The Relic (1997)

Directed by Peter Hyams.  Written by Amy Holden Jones, John Raffo, Amanda Silver, and Rick Jaffa.  Based on the novel by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.  Starring Penelope Ann Miller, Tom Sizemore, Linda Hunt and James Whitmore.

Plot: a lizard-like creature starts eating people in a Chicago museum.

Dr. Green (Miller) works as an evolutionary biologist in a Chicago museum.  During opening night, a lock-down is ordered after someone goes missing.  Later, some people are attacked by a creature and all hell breaks loose.

It’s a good movie.  Really good.  The creature is cool looking.  There’s a great motive, a great cast and a great ending.  It followed rules it said out and it was impressively realistic for a creature feature.  However, she didn’t wear gloves when touching everything and we know that to be wrong, but we forgave it.  What I couldn’t forgive, the dogs dying.  We still recommend it though.

My score: 65.  DJ’s score: 70.
