Ghost Ship (2002)

Directed by Steve Beck.  Written by Mark Hanlon and John Pogue.  Starring Gabriel Byrne, Julianna Margulies, Desmond Harrington, Isaiah Washington, Karl Urban, Ron Eldard, Alex Dimitriades and Emily Browning.

Plot: a salvage crew discovers a long lost passenger ship that may be haunted.

In 1962, a while ship load of people were killed.  But why?  In the present, a man named Ferriman (Harrington) has found the long lost ship and hires Murphy (Byrne) and his crew to go get it.  Once on board though, they find that they weren’t the first people on the ship since 1962 (they find a digital watch).  Some of the crew start seeing things, but when they find tons of gold on board they ignore their “willies” for a time and just worry about getting it off the ship.  Alas, that doesn’t work, and they end up stranded on the ship with no way off and ghosts roaming the halls.

I thought the story was pretty cool, but DJ disagreed.  I also liked the kills, the cast, the effects and the very memorable opening.  DJ did agree with me on that one.  It was the only part of the movie either of us remembered.

My score: 52.  DJ’s score: 39.
