Rare Exports (2010)

Directed by Jalmari Helander.  Written by the Helander Brothers.  Starring Onni Tommila, Jorma Tommila, Tommi Korpela, Rauno Juvonen, Per Christian Ellefsen and Peeter Jakobi.

Plot: the people living near the Korvatunturi mountain are about to find out the truth about Santa Claus.

This is not a Christmas horror movie for the young ones.  Just so you know going in.  It’s about some men that go digging near the Korvatunturi mountain and find what they believe is a burial site.  A little boy overhears all this and is convinced that it is Santa’s burial site.  So, he starts reading about the original Santa, Joulupukki, who was a mean Santa.  Destroyed some naughty kids.

Anyway, they end up trapping a man they believe to be Santa and they decide to sell him.  Which is when the story starts to really take off.  Because honestly, the beginning is a little slow, but the end is smart and beautifully done.

The little boy is a straight up gangsta.  It’s original, it followed rules, had a sensational script and a enjoyable story.  Don’t go in looking for gore though.  It isn’t like that.  But be warned, there are a lot of dead reindeer which I didn’t need to see.  And there’s a lot of elf penis swinging around, too, which neither of us really needed to see.  And there’s no women in the movie, so there’s no boobs.

All in all, I recommend.  We both do.  We really enjoyed this movie.

Our score: 74.
