Resident Evil (2002)

Written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.  Starring Milla Jovovich, James Purefoy, Michelle Rodriguez, Eric Mabius and Colin Salmon.

Plot: Alice and her companions must survive the dangers inside the Hive in order to stop the Red Queen.

The Umbrella Corporation makes all sorts of things, including weapons, which most of the employees don’t know about.  Then, someone lets a virus out inside the building on purpose killing everyone inside.  Elsewhere, Alice (Jovovich) wakes up and doesn’t remember who she is, but some soldiers come and say she’s one of them.  They all go into the infected Umbrella building because apparently they all work for Umbrella and they need to shut down the Red Queen.  See, the Red Queen is the one who killed everyone the minute the virus was released.  Everyone inside the building isn’t quite dead though and the Red Queen uses these zombies to try to stop Alice and the other soldiers from shutting her down.

There’s a really cool bit involving very destructive lasers.  The zombie dogs are scary, too.  It’s the only time I could possibly kill a dog.  And the zombie people, well they freak me out entirely.  And on a side note, our mother LOVES Alice.  She is her personal hero.  LOL.

The cast is spectacular.  Purefoy and Mabius are both nice to look at.  Hee hee.  There’s not too much Freddy Claws though.  There’s a huge betrayal going on and if you haven’t seen this movie yet, I won’t ruin it for you.  We really like this first installment of the Resident Evil franchise though and we recommend.

My score: 71.  DJ’s score: 63.
