Tom (Grace) is released from a mental institution after his father kills himself.  Apparently it was a messy affair since the dog started eating him because it was left alone with the body for so long.  Anyway, his father left him everything.  Including an old mansion that he’s stuck in because Tom is also on house arrest.  If he breaks house arrest, he’ll go back to the mental institution.  And his parole officer, Brody (Clarkson) would just love to see that happen.

The bad things start happening quick once Tom is in the house.  He starts having visions of his dead father’s dog, then he sees his dead father who don’t look so good.  He receives strange phone calls and finds a secret passageway with eye holes peeking into all the rooms.  Then, his brother Alex (Mulvey) shows up.  His brother who’s supposed to be in prison.  Because his brother is the reason he was in the institution in the first place, but you’ll have to get to that information yourself.

It’s mostly psychological horror and it’s good psychological horror, too, and there’s so much more story underneath the surface that you’ll have to figure out.  It was original.  I liked Tom.  I liked his love interest, Lynn (played by Rodriguez).  The cast was exceptional, the direction decent, the ending good as well.  It followed rules, too, and was even a little creepy.  I watched it by myself though since DJ doesn’t love psychological horror, but he missed a good one.

My score: 69.

  1. Thanks for the review. I’ve been wanting to check this one out and sounds like I will probably enjoy it. My wife enjoys a psychological thriller/horror more than just a slasher so she probably will like it too.
