Directed by Nick Murphy. Written by Murphy and Stephen Volk. Starring Rebecca Hall, Dominic West, Isaac Hempstead-Wright and Imelda Staunton.
Plot: a debunker of ghosts goes to a boarding school to prove that it isn’t haunted.
In this pretentious and convoluted movie, a debunker of hauntings goes to a boarding school in 1921 to explore whether or not it is being haunted by a child. Spoiler alert, it is being haunted by a child and everything that Florence (Hall) believes is shook.
This had a good cast, but the story just wasn’t satisfying. It’s not rewatchable. It wasn’t scary. A little creepy maybe, but not scary. We also weren’t sure what happened at the end until we looked it up. Like we said, it was convoluted for convoluted’s sake. It could’ve ended four different times in four different ways and we may have liked it more. I don’t presume to know what the writers were thinking, but it wasn’t good.
My score: 27. DJ’s score: 22.
