Fantasy Island (2020)

Directed by Jeff Wadlow. Written by Wadlow, Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs. Starring Michael Pena, Maggie Q, Lucy Hale, Austin Stowell, Jimmy O. Yang, Portia Doubleday, Ryan Hansen, Mike Vogel, Kim Coates and Michael Rooker.

Plot: people visit the mysterious island to find that their dreams come true but can turn into horrific nightmares.

So, this group of people come to the island for different reasons. J.D. (Hansen) and Brax (Yang) have come to “have it all”. Gwen (Q) wants a do-over so that she can accept a marriage proposal from the love of her life. Melanie (Hale) wants revenge on a childhood bully. Patrick (Stowell) wants to enlist in the military like his father did.

Melanie’s the first one to realize something is wrong when her high school bully, Sloane (Doubleday), is taken hostage and brought there for her to torture. Soon, everyone is experiencing something horrific, like meeting dead relatives. But of course, there’s a twist. And then there’s another twist. There’s twist on top of twist and none of them end up being very good. As a matter of fact, they’re all pretty stupid.

There was good acting though and I laughed a little, but DJ really didn’t. Also, I liked the very end, but DJ didn’t like that either. It followed rules, but since the rules sucked, that wasn’t helpful. And believe it or not, there’s a wild party going on throughout the film and there isn’t one boob shot. It’s a sin. We do not recommend.

My score: 36. DJ’s score: 15.
