The Grudge (2020)

Directed by Nicholas Pesce. Written by Pesce and Jeff Buhler. Starring Andrea Riseborough, Demian Bichir, John Cho, Lin Shaye, Jacki Weaver, Betty Gilpin, William Sadler and Frankie Faison.

Plot: a house is cursed with a vengeful ghost that dooms those who enter.

The movie is presented in a rather stupid non-linear fashion that we didn’t like. But these are the stories. One is about 2 detectives investigating murders that have taken place in the haunted house. The rookie detective Muldoon (Riseborough), is particularly drawn to the house and the murders and then begins seeing things herself.

In another story, Peter (Cho) and Nina (Gilpin) find out that their child is going to be born with ALD. They decide to keep the baby however, and Peter goes back to work as a realtor. He, of course, is working in the haunted house though and is soon tormented by the ghosts himself.

In the last story, which is actually the middle storry in linear assignment, Lorna Moody (Weaver) assists in suicides and William (Faison) wants his wife, Faith (Shaye), put out of her misery. However, Lorna refuses after seeing that Faith isn’t of sound mind. Also, Faith talks to someone named Melinda, who no one else can see.

In the end, the ghosts haunt until a lot of people kill other people and themselves. It’s a shit show. It’s crap. The rules sucked, the soundtrack sucked and the ending was bad. What’s worse is that I really wanted to like it, but I did not.

My score: 34. DJ’s score: 37.
