The 7 people that end up in Chernobyl were stupid, no doubt about that, but you actually start to care a great deal about all of them.  So much so that me and DJ became very emotional a time or two because we wanted the best for ALL of them, but that does not happen.  A lot of people accused the movie of sensationalizing Chernobyl, but we didn’t get that.  We know Rotten Tomatoes gave it a rather harsh review, but we loved it, and here’s why:

The story is great.  The soundtrack was extraordinarily appropriate for each and every scene.  As was the lighting.  Excellent use of light and dark.  We haven’t seen another movie use it quite so well.  Also, it’s an alarming film on 2 different counts.  First, we jumped out of our skin a couple of times.  Second, it really makes you think about the situation that happened in Chernobyl.  Which is why we didn’t think it sensationalized it. If anything, the writer and director gave you a little bit of social commentary about how horrible people can be and what ends they’ll go to in order to cover up the horrible.  At times they will even just become more horrible.

There were no boob shots, but we allowed it.  We almost think it would have cheapened a movie like this.  The motive was good, as were the rules, the realism and the acting.  The dialogue was tremendous.  I mean, people talk to each other this way.  Especially people who are related to one another.  And the dialogue in the beginning of the film is what stays in your head as the movie progresses and people begin to die.

It’s a phenomenal film and we recommend it.  A lot.  Just don’t watch it alone.  We agree and give it a 89/100.
