Death Screams (AKA House of Death) (1982)

Plot: young people are stalked and murdered by a maniac at a town fair.

When a group of young people convene at the town fair, shit goes down.  And that’s about all that makes sense in this movie.  The sherriff is a bumbling fat man who can’t get out of his own way.  The soundtrack is painful.  The acting is awful.

There’s a love triangle, a new romance and a bunch of lustful young people at the center of it all.  A girl gets shot with an arrow and instead of screaming or running for help, she quietly goes and sits down on the abandoned merry-go-round where she is promptly killed.  It’s not lit very well.  It’s an unruly mess.

And one of the worst scenes for me was when one of the female characters tells the “people can lick, too” urban legend to her friends.  I’m guessing they told her to roll with it because she keeps saying “anyway”, like, every other word.  It makes the story way less scary than it actually is.

And who is the killer?  Well, that’s stupid when you find out.  Very poor motive.  Doesn’t make sense at all.  Not a good watch.  Too stupid to even be a so-bad-it’s-good watch for us.

Our score: 21.

  1. I don’t remember this one, but it sounds dreadful and the overuse of the word “anyway” is almost as annoying as those that overuse “actually”. Actually, I think it’s worse. Anyway, that’s my take on it. I was actually going to skip this anyway after reading your review.
