The Crawling Eye: The Trollenberg Terror (1958)

Directed by Quentin Lawrence.  Written by Jimmy Sangster and Peter Key.  Starring Forrest Tucker, Jennifer Jayne, Janet Munro, Lawrence Payne and Warren Mitchell.

Plot: a series of decapitations on a Swiss mountainside appear to be connected to a mysterious radioactive cloud

So, people in Trollenberg are losing their heads and Anne (Munro), an outsider, wants to go there because she’s having psychic visions or something.  Then, some important men get together to talk about how something similar happened three years ago in the Andes and no bodies were found and there’s always been a cloud there when there shouldn’t be.

It’s kind of hard to follow because the sound is so shotty.  There’s also horrible transitions and editing.  And Anne is cute and all, but she cannot act and her character is also really ridiculous.  It’s so unintentionally funny though, it got a lot of points for that.  I mean, the opening and ending scenes alone are worth the price of admission.  And where did the crawling eyes even come from?  And how did they turn men into murderers?  You never really learn why, but it’s all just accepted by the people on screen so easily.  It’s awesome!

My score: 48.  DJ’s score: 53.  We recommend at least one good watch.
