The Darkest Hour (2011)

Directed by Chris Gorak.  Written by Jon Spaihts, Leslie Bohem and M.T. Ahern.  Starring Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Max Minghella, Rachael Taylor and Joel Kinnaman.

Plot: in Moscow, 5 young people fight an alien race that have attacked Earth

While not a popular opinion, me and DJ really liked this one.  So, give it a chance please, if you haven’t.  The plot is exactly what it sounds like so there’s no surprises there.  The cast is terrific.  Freddy Claws was decent.  It generally followed rules and had amazing effects.

However, there’s only real one death in the film that you care about, but we cared a lot, so it actually managed to touch us emotionally.  Most of the people are likable except the greedy Russian guy.  And I was entertained by the ending, but DJ thought it could have been better.  The real downside is that it’s not a very rewatchable movie.  It’s a little too dramatic and sad for all that.

You won’t be scared out of your boots, but we think you’ll be entertained.

DJ’s score: 67.  My score: 71.
