Hellraiser (1987)

Written and Directed by Clive Barker and Starring Ashley Laurence, Doug Bradley, Andrew Robinson and Clare Higgins

Plot : Frank, a man of perverse appetites seeks out a puzzle box, gets it for a bundle of cash but also a much heavier price when he is sent to hell. Accidentally escapes, needing help from Julia in order to be restored to “living” condition but hell doesn’t give up easy.

“We want the man who did this.”, Clive Barker is his name and horror is his game. A game he is very adept at. He gifts us what I consider to be a beautiful movie. Not in hope, joy or love but in artistry. It is a well written, well made story about family, balance, control, loyalty and reaping what you sow.

The outfits and hair are very 1987 but with the way appearance is treated now, it’s less laughable than it was before.

I am in love with Ashley Laurence. I had the pleasure of meeting her and Doug Bradley alongside most of the original cast. Everyone was super nice. While I loved this movie before i met any of them, meeting them adds to the love.

Pinhead is my 2nd favorite horror icon behind only Jason. You will see that my sister and I watched two different movies lol.

It has great direction, effects, music, writing, and I have watched it many times since that first viewing. Tara doesn’t agree with at least half of that. It is highly original with a good motive. Great innovation with each of the Cenobites, great cast. I find this really fun to watch, Tara doesn’t. There are boob shots and gore!

I saw this movie for the first time when i was about 11 and I have loved it ever since. I was pinhead in 6th grade, the looks i got were priceless.

I could not recommend a movie more highly than Hellraiser. The idea of our own nature making each of us a personal hell and our twisted curiosities and flaws becoming the reason for and instruments of our damnation and punishment has always fascinated me.

Tara gave it a 37/100 and I apparently watch a different movie and scored it a 101/100, yup i gave it  an extra point, just how much i love it.
