Halloween II (1981)

Directed by Rick Rosenthal.  Written by John Carpenter and Debra Hill.  Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence, Charles Cyphers, Lance Guest, Nancy Stephens, Dick Warlock, Pamela Shoop and Leo Rossi.

Plot: Laurie Strode is rushed to the hospital after surviving Michael Myers; unfortunately, he isn’t done with her yet.

Welcome back to the terror! The terror that is Michael Myers. The terror that is haunting music, darkened hospital rooms and splitting up when you obviously shouldn’t. It’s not quite as terrifying as the original movie, but this sequel is still pretty satisfying. After a night from hell, Laurie (Curtis) is taken to the hospital nearby. Lucky for her, she’s very perceptive. However, the people around her aren’t so aware and therefore, by the time the credits roll, they aren’t so alive either.

Some things in this movie do not make any sense. For instance, the hospital is just too empty for words. DJ and I used to live near a very sad hospital where the nurses were ignorant and the doctors regularly got things wrong. I was once left alone, on a gurney, strapped to a backboard in a hallway where employees regularly passed by me without talking to me. And yet, that hospital still wasn’t as desolate as the hospital in Halloween II. It makes no sense.

Also, while Laurie can’t get out a scream when her life literally depends on it, she can somehow shoot a man in the exact right spot when she never has and didn’t want to handle a gun at all. Sometimes though, realism is for suckers. It’s good to turn a movie on and get away from reality every once in a while. It’s not going to get realism points, but it was fun to watch, so points there! Of course, how can a film not be fun when it involves the marvel that is The Pleas?! Oh, that crazy Dr. Loomis.

My score: 89. DJ’s score: 74.

I shot him 6 times! I shot him in the heart-but… HE’S NOT HUMAN!
