Plot: a group of kids find themselves trapped, overnight, in a haunted Spirit Halloween store.

This movie has automatic nostalgia and such for me. I have enjoyed horror movies since I was pretty young. My sister and I would watch USA Up All Night and Monster Vision TNT. Trips to Blockbuster always included browsing the horror section and looking at the best box covers and reading the info on the back in hopes of finding a gem. Even when we found crap it was still fun. Halloween season was always special. Pop up Halloween stores were a favorite haunt of ours. Perusing the aisles for costume ideas or marveling at the mask wall. Messing with the decorations and of course playing with the machetes, hatchets, Freddy gloves, pitchforks, swords, sycthes and a really nice halberd. So when I heard they were making this, I got excited. I wanted it to be good, and spoiler, it is good.

A long time ago a not nice rich guy (played by Christopher Lloyd) evicts the residents of a “Home for Wayward Children”. The “witch” that runs it does a lil enchanting and the crotchety old man dies on the grounds.
The movie centers around Jake, Carson and Bo who have been friends for a while. Jake’s mom, Sue, has a new boyfriend that he isn’t crazy about. Carson wants to act grown and not trick-or-treat anymore, much to the chagrin of Jake and Bo. Jake likes Carson’s sister, Kate. And the kids decide to sneak into the local Spirit Halloween store to spend the night.

Kate was left in charge of her brother, so when she finds his cell phone and no him, she decides to track him down. Each kid has a skill they use when the shit hits the fan. Jake knows spooky history, Bo knows chemistry. Tara loves Bo BTW. If she had a son, he would be just like him. Sue is a good mother so she gets a terrible feeling, sees something unusual in the sky and just knows to take off toward the store.

This a great movie about good vs evil and growing up and the changes that happen in life. The end was really enjoyable and the movie was funny throughout. There was a really cool cat, it followed rules and had good special effects. It was a realistic story with good dialogue. It was fun to watch. We loved Sue and Bo. I loved Kate.
Tara liked the movie with a score of 60 and I loved it, and gave it an 82!
