Plot: during an expedition in Antarctica, a team of scientists get caught in a war between Aliens and Predators
Charles Bishop Weyland (Lance Henriksen) and his organization gathers a group of scientists when he discovers a pyramid under the ice that he wants them to excavate. He pays well so people say yes. Lex Woods (Sanaa Lathan) is their guide and de facto leader. She wants to keep everyone safe. The site is an old whaling station where humans from a century ago met gruesome ends. They find a hole to go down and explore the site and that’s when everything goes to hell.
People wanted this showdown for a while, it came out a year after two other iconic characters had their brawl. It is pretty entertaining for the most part. The designs of both Alien and Predator are great. The action sequences are well done, some pretty big time violent battles between the title characters. I enjoy where they went with the story. They made the fights interesting with some context and high stakes.
We liked a lot of people. Tara didn’t like the very end. We would have liked if more people had lived. I liked the innovation and realism more than my sister. We both really liked the cast, direction and special effects. It follows rules and is funny in parts. I liked the story more than her and that reflects in our scores.
Tara liked it with a 61 and I so close to loved it with a 79
